Will text messaging change the way you do business? Will it really have a profound impact on how you generate leads and cultivate relationships?
The answer is yes and no.
Yes. It will affect how you communicate small snippets of information with clients, that don't require a conversation..."See you at 6:30. Got 2 great houses to show you."
Will it be the great new lead generation tool that will "save the day" for your real estate marketing efforts? Maybe, if you're marketing ring tones or coupons for cheeseburgers.
Is it "The Real Deal" for
Real Estate Lead Generation?
Let's look closer at the numbers according to NAR and Nielsen Mobile:

A few more interesting statistics on text messaging. Percent of all texting done by age group, according to Nielsen Mobile:
Ages 12 & under - 9.63 %
Ages 13-17 - 46.99 % <= single largest group of users
Ages 18-24 - 21.31 %
Ages 25-34 - 8.93 %
Ages 35-44 - 6.37 %
Ages 45-54 - 3.45 %
Ages 55-64 - 1.03 %
Ages 65+ - 0.38 %
In summary, 77.93% of all texting is done by those under age 25. In this age group 19 out of 20 people do not buy houses! Roughly 95% of all real estate transactions are being done by those over age of 25.
This clearly proves the point. Texting is a great communications tool for sending small snippets of information that don't require a conversation. But as of right now, your target market (those over age 25) would rather dial in and hear a recorded message over their cell phone...vs. texting for 160 character of text and a couple photos they can barely see.
